Tahera Ahmads tempest in a Coke can
This story is either an act of discrimination or a huge pile of pig manure.
Ill leave it to you to decide.
Tahera Ahmad is a Muslim chaplain at Northwestern University and a frequent Ramadan dinner guest of President Obama. Recently on a United Airlines flight from Chicago to DC, the same rules that apply to every single passenger were applied to her, which of course was racist. The really messed up thing is, this had nothing to do with her headscarf, pork, or praying to Allah: it was over a soda.
CNN reports that this blatant act of Islamophobia started when Ahmad asked the flight attendant if she could have an unopened can of Diet Coke:
For hygienic reasons, she asked for an unopened can of soda, she said. The flight attendant told her that she could not give her one but then gave an unopened can of beer to a man seated nearby. Ahmad questioned the flight attendant.
We are unauthorized to give unopened cans to people because they may use it as a weapon on the plane, she recalled the flight attendant telling her.
When Ahmad told the flight attendant she was being discriminated against, the attendant abruptly opened the mans can of beer.
Its so you dont use it as a weapon, Ahmad said she was told.
As you can see, Ahmad would have us believe that because she is a hijab-wearing Muslim, the flight attendant profiled her as a terrorist. But hang on, this thing gets much worse:
Shocked, Ahmad asked other passengers if they had seen what happened.
A man sitting across the aisle turned to her and yelled, You Muslim, you need to shut the f up, she said.
The man leaned over, looked her in the eyes and said: Yes you know you would use it as a weapon. So shut the f up, according to Ahmad.
With racial profiling and vicious anti-Islamic hate showed to her, Ahmad loses it completely:
I felt the hate in his voice and his raging eyes, Ahmad wrote on Facebook while the plane was still in flight. I cant help but cry … because I thought people would defend me and say something. Some people just shook their heads in dismay.
What a terrible story….which likely belongs right in the Fiction aisle.
Does anyone actually believe that this story happened? CNN does, and is trumpeting it as a clear example of Islamophobia. This despite the fact that Ahmad does not have a single corroborating witness or cell phone video to back up her outlandish claim.
I have flown United for years. Everyone knows damn well you dont get a full can of soda because its free, and airlines try to save every penny on one hand, and stick you with any penny they can get away with on the other.
The guy got a full can of beer because he paid for it.
What makes her tale even more ridiculous is what she claimed the pilot told her:
The pilot also apologized for everything that happened and said that as a white male he recognized his privilege and said he didnt know what it must feel like to be a minority and go through something hateful like this, she wrote.
HUH? Sounds like talking points from Critical Race Theory 101 course at Northwestern U. not something a real life, likely veteran airline pilot would ever say in 100 lifetimes.
Either that, or she was reading from a script that CAIR handed her in prep for a lawsuit.
And remember the Muslim principle of Taqiyya which states that it is ethical for Muslims to lie to infidels, if it advances the cause of Islam.

Brian Anderson of Downtrend has this take:
Heres what I think happened: Ahmad wanted a whole can of soda and she wanted it unopened, two things the flight attendant was taught not to do. Feeling privileged as part of the protected class of people, Ahmad raised a big stink about being denied something she wasnt entitled to. She tried to make a blanket policy about racism and Islamophobia.
At one point she may have tried to drag the beer can guy into her madness and maybe he said something like: Shut up and drink your soda.
There is no corroborating evidence like cell phone video or testimony from the other passengers, the flight attendant, or the beer guy, but CNN reports this hate crime like it is a fact. Even worse, United Airlines is taking the matter seriously and doing their best to kiss Ahmeds ass. And, you guessed it, Ahmads social media supporters are calling for a boycott of the airline.
All of this because a Muslim woman felt entitled to special treatment that isnt even part of her religion. If you cant order a Diet Coke on a flight without turning it into an international Islamophobic incident, there is something seriously wrong with you.
