China is planning to begin fingerprinting all foreign tourists who are coming into the country. The new measure will first go into effect at the Shenzhen airport and be a mandatory requirement for visitors between the ages of 14 and 70.

The Ministry of Public security explained it as an “important measure to strengthen entry and exit management.”

After this first round of the new security is enacted they will start to put it into place at other airports as well. Other countries such as the U.S., South Korea, and Japan are already doing fingerprinting for travelers from other countries.

Travelers with diplomatic passports or those coming from countries that have reciprocal agreements with China will be exempt from the process.
